 2017 Preview 


       Hillcrest completed the 2016 season with a 11-1 record. The Patriots cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Hillcrest captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Hillcrest reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Spanish Fort by a score of 23-13.

       The 506 points scored by the Patriots last year were a team record in a single season.

       The high-scoring Hillcrest Tuscaloosa offense ranked 15th in the AHSAA. They averaged 42.2 points a game.

       The Patriots defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 19th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 14.0 points a game.

       Since 2010, Hillcrest has gone a combined 61-22. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 6A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Hillcrest has managed to compile a record of 157-124. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 6A and 122nd in the AHSAA.

       The Patriots are led by head coach Sam Adams who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 28-9 over the past three seasons at Hillcrest. Under his direction the Patriots have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Adams.

       Coach Adams' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 28-9 (75.7%).

       The Hillcrest Patriots will play in Class 6A region four during the 2017 season.

       The Patriots enter the 2017 season riding a 12 game regular season winning streak.

       The Patriots should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Patriots have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2006 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

      Senior Tab Beverley returns after catching 18 passes for 386 yards and 5 touchdowns.

       The Patriots open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Oxford on Friday, August 25 at Lamar Field. Last year the Oxford Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 10-1 and in first place in Class 6A region seven. The Yellow Jackets lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Muscle Shoals by a score of 31-17.

       This will be the second meeting between Hillcrest Tuscaloosa and Oxford on the football field. The Patriots have a 0-1-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in with
